Backwater Studio is located in the former Venus Knitting Mills building in Bushwick, Brooklyn, one of the neighborhood’s earliest converted artist studio spaces.

 

Its generous natural light and expansive working area are integral to Cobb’s practice, allowing large paintings to develop directly on raw cotton through staining, gravity, and layered pigment. The surrounding industrial architecture and changing New York light become part of the atmosphere in which the work is made.
