ABOUT

Sherri Cobb is a Texas-born painter based in Brooklyn. Her work explores atmosphere, light, and the tension between gesture and stillness, building expansive fields of color that feel both physical and elusive.

Working primarily with acrylic pigment on raw cotton, Cobb uses staining, transparency, gravity, and restraint to create paintings in which color carries structure and gesture dissolves into atmosphere. Her practice is rooted in a sustained engagement with abstraction, the sublime, and the histories of Color Field painting and Abstract Expressionism.

Cobb earned her BFA from the School of Visual Arts and continued graduate study in painting at Hunter College. She has maintained an independent studio practice in New York for more than two decades.
